Pattern Review: Happy Feet Booties

Back at the end of May, I made a pair of Happy Feet Booties. The pattern is free from Purl Soho, and I found it through Ravelry.

These baby booties are a fun little pattern that works up very quickly.  I enjoyed the alternate construction that the pattern explores, although I'm not too keen on such a small object being seamed or having to cut my yarn mid-project. Still, they were fun to make.

The instructions are clear, and lots of useful photographs are included. The pattern includes instruction for a 0-3 month size and a 3-6 month size. Your cast-on is double the length from the top of the cuff to the toe (on the top of the foot), so adjusting the size of these socks is a little tricky, but changing gauge will make a huge difference in size. The pattern is worked at 5 stitches and 5 garter ridges per inch, on size 5 (3.75 mm) needles. The pair I made were in some Lion Brand Mandala leftover from the Pentagranny Baby Blanket I made for my new baby.

If you need a quick baby shower gift (or gift topper) or you make baby things for charity, these little baby booties are a fun alternative to traditional socks, and they're a wonderful way to use up odds and ends.
