Free Pattern! Pentagonal Dishcloth (Crochet)

It's that time of year when I make dishcloths for Each Stitch Counts and drop them off at my local food bank ahead of Thanksgiving. With everything that's happened over the last several months, I'm only making a dozen this year, but that's better than zero. Each year I've done this, I've wound up playing with different patterns or shapes, and I've shared them with you all (here and here). Since I can't wrap my head around paying for a dishcloth pattern, these are always shared as free patterns, and I would love it if y'all would make some to donate as well.

This year, I'm having fun with pentagons.  I like making dishcloths in half double crochet, which lacks the drawbacks of both single and double crochet.  Since half double crochet lies flat if you increase ten stitches per round, making a pentagon was a pretty obvious conclusion.

I prefer my dish cloths to be about 7 or 8 inches across--just a bit bigger than my hand--so this pattern doesn't use much yarn.  I've provided instructions for both worsted and DK weight yarn.  Either way, you'll need about 40 yards, so it's a good way to use up leftovers.  Cotton, linen, and hemp are all good options for dishcloths and facecloths, so have fun!
