Needlework Update: 4th Quarter and 2024 In Review

Happy New Year, all!  2024 was a busy year, and I'm looking forward to a productive 2025. Here are the goals I set for myself for the final three months of 2024:

  • Publish the last three patterns for the year
  • Publish at least one free pattern
  • Finish my son's blanket
  • Make a pair of Entrelac Booties for the baby
  • Make the Rug Me Up Hooded Jacket for the baby
  • Start working on the Patricia Kristofferson coaster set
  • Make an instructional video for the blog
  • Continue weekly charity stitching
    • Send box to the White Buffalo Calf Woman Society
    • Send box to Today Is A Good Day
    • Make dishcloths for the local foodbank, ahead of Thanksgiving
I did publish my final three patterns for the year. I set the annual goal of a dozen patterns for sale per year, and I actually published pattern number seven after my last quarterly update, so I really published the final four patterns in the last three months. The Topsy-Turvy Mittens (a top-down mitten pattern), the Mitered Baby Blanket, and the Cables and Lace Seaman's Scarf were all knitted patterns; and the Improved Hexagon Jacket was my final crochet pattern of the year.

In addition to those four, 2024 saw the release of the Crazy Filet Shawlet, Top-Down Crochet Mittens, a Folded Cowl, a Cabled Headband, a S2S Crochet Cable Hat, a Quick and Easy Crocheted Baby Blanket, the Spider Web Baby Blanket, and Practical Crocheter's Spot Purse

Along with those, I also put some new merch in the Stitch Whisper Designs Etsy Shop.

Before the end of the year, I also published a Pacifier Minder and a Pentagonal Dishcloth as free crochet patterns. Earlier in the year, I also put out a Modified Star/Flower Motif, a Net Stitch Pentagon, and a Basic Baby Cap; and I republished the Child's Neck Gaiter as a printable.

I finally, FINALLY finished my son's twin size blanket. It took me far longer than it should have, but I'm very pleased with how it came out.

For the baby, I did make the Entrelac Booties, but they came out a little on the small side.  Oh, well. They were fun to make. However, she still needed socks, so I made her a pair of Bitsa Bootees and a pair of Monster Socks

I did not start on the Rug Me Up Hooded Jacket, but I did make the first two coasters from Patricia Kristofferson's Country Coaster Collection. I also intended to make the Frida Beret last year to go with my gloves and to crochet a fruit garland for Sukkot, but neither of those projects happened. The garland, in particular, did not happen, because I spent the late summer with my baby daughter in the hospital. I'm hoping to make both projects this year.

I managed to make one tutorial video last year...barely. I recorded the Foundation Pattern Stitch video in early December, but my son didn't finish editing it, partly due to issues on my end, until the end of the month, and I didn't publish it until January first. But I recorded it during 2024, so I say it counts!

As for charity stitching, I did continue to do that, and I made my four end-of-year donations. I sent off a bag of bonding "squares" to Today Is A Good Day, donated 15 dishcloths (and bottles of soap) to my local food pantry, and I split the rest of my donation stitching between a box to the White Buffalo Calf Woman Society and a local crisis pregnancy center. Normally, I do the food bank donation ahead of Thanksgiving, but I did it in early December this year.

For 2025, I hope to
  • Publish 12 more patterns for sale (6 knit, 6 crochet)
  • Continue turning free patterns from this blog into pdfs
  • Add merch to the Etsy shop
  • Start compiling some of my for sale patterns into collections.
  • Continue weekly charity stitching
  • Make at least one tutorial video
  • Make a crocheted fruit garland for Sukkot
  • Make the Rug Me Up Hooded Jacket for the baby
  • Make a crocheted Roly-Poly for my son's 7th birthday
  • Make the Frida Beret to go with my gloves
  • Make a hat and glove set for my 4yo
  • Finish the Desert Rose Hat for my teen
  • Make a stuffed cat for my 9yo
  • Finish the coaster set I started
  • Make socks for myself
