Here's the first pattern for 2025!
Hats crocheted side-to-side are a perennial favorite, because they are fast and easy to make and because crochet is more elastic in that direction. I published a S2S hat pattern last year, and this is a much simplified variation on that.
This version of the classic concept is worked in shell stitch with worsted weight yarn. The top avoids a gathered appearance because it is shaped using crocheted short rows in shell stitch. Other than the first and last rows, the whole thing is a six-row repeat, and the first row is made using foundation shell stitch. Made with a deep, fold-up brim, this hat is warm and cozy to wear, and instructions are provided for three sizes (infant, child, adult).
