My last post was introducing the Elegant Ascot as the newest Stitch Whisper pattern. That ascot was made holding together a strand of lace weight mohair and a strand of Arcane Fibre Works hand-dyed, chunky weight yarn.
Arcane Fibre Works is a Canadian hand-dyer based in Alberta. They offer dozens of gorgeous colorways, and I genuinely had trouble choosing what to buy. Ultimately, I bought a skein of their sock yarn (in the Green of Wheat colorway) and a skein of chunky in Raspberry Delight. All their colorways are offered in fingering, DK, worsted, and chunky, with the fingering and DK being 80/20 merino/nylon blends and the worsted and chunky being pure merino. All skeins are 100 grams.
The two skeins I ordered arrived promptly and as described. The colors were true to the pictures on the website. What really caught my attention, though, is that these skeins are the softest merino wool I've ever encountered, hands down. Despite being so soft, however, they don't snag on the callouses on my hands the way other super-soft wools do.
I really like how the Raspberry Delight chunky yarn worked up, and I enjoyed working with it. I bought it specifically to make the Elegant Ascot pattern sample, and I was not disappointed. The Green of Wheat sock yarn I bought for making myself a pair of socks, which I haven't done in a long time, and I'm really looking forward to it. With the yarn being so soft, I'm a little concerned about how those socks will wear, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.
Since I'm plugging the chunky yarn, I think I should take a minute to mention Arcane's current sale. Apparently, they stop making their chunky yarn during the warm months, given decreased demand. Right now, all their chunky yarn is marked down 15%, so it's a good time to give them a try.
Personally, I'm really looking forward to placing more orders with Arcane Fibre Works in the future.
