Free Pattern! Big Gauge Stole (Knitted)

I’ve always loved mohair–the way it shows the stitches, the halo around it, the texture, and especially the way it picks up color.  There’s something about mohair that gives dyes extra depth and dimension, and I love it.

Years ago, some friends and I spent a fair amount of time playing around with mohair on large needles.  My Enchanted Shawl and Hooded Scarf patterns both originated in that time. One of the other things that I played with was stranding mohair with a worsted or DK weight yarn that have a bit of shine to them.  At the time, I preferred wool/silk blends or synthetic ribbons.  In the picture above, I used a strand of bamboo yarn.  Having that second strand improves the weight and drape of the fabric, and the sheen of that extra strand really does amazing things with the color of the mohair.

This easy pattern knits up quickly on size 17 or 19 needles. You just need to know how to knit, purl, increase and decrease.

This is beautiful! I admire people who have nerves for knitting, I always start something and never finish the project.
