2024 Round-Up!

Last year, this blog saw more traffic than it ever has in any preceding year, hands down. Now some of those views were just bots, but a lot of it was real traffic from real viewers, and I very much appreciate it. The Stitch Whisper Designs Etsy Shop also saw a third more business in 2024 than it did in 2023, and I'm very grateful for everyone's support and enthusiasm on both platforms.

So, what posts did everyone most enjoy? These were the ten most popular posts on this blog in 2024:

10. Pentagonal Dishcloth (Free Pattern)--I'm actually surprised this one did so well.  I published this free dishcloth pattern in the autumn of 2024, so it making it to the top ten even though most of the year had already passed is impressive.

9. How to Make a Folded Hem in Crochet--This is a technique I used in the Bottom's Up Waffle Stitch Hat pattern. It uses knurling (crab stitch in the front row only) to make a decorative fold line. The concept is a variation on the classic knitting technique that is number 2 on this list.

8. Joining Trick!--This crochet trick I learned from the Pentagranny Baby Blanket Pattern makes nearly-invisible join lines at the end of a round, while keeping the beginning of each round in the corner space, which is really convenient.

7. Basic Baby Cap (Free Pattern)--A go-to crochet pattern for my charity stitching, it's a very convenient (and attractive) way to use up odds and ends.

6. Five More Kitchen Kloths (Free Pattern)--This was the second collection of dish cloth patterns I've published (here's the first). This one came out in 2023 after making them for my annual food bank donation. They're easy, practical, and lean heavily on half double crochet.

5. Making Darts--This is one of my older posts. When crocheting garments for myself, I usually prefer S2S construction.  This is how I add waist shaping to those sweaters and tops. More recently, I've applied the same concept to shape the tops of the Sideways Shell and Cabled S2S Hats and to add sleeve and neck shaping to the Improved Hexagon Jacket

4. Pattern Review: Hexagon Sweater (And Tip!)--This one is a fun pattern I tried out last year.  It's a baby sweater made from two hexagons (the type that lie flat), and it had some interesting details to it as well.

3. Knitted Kids' Mitts and Fingerless Gloves (Free Pattern)--Here's a fast and easy pattern for kid-size mittens/fingerless gloves.  They're made in chunky yarn, and the mitts are connected to each other with i-cord.

2. Folded Cuffs in Knitting--Making an effective fold line in knitted is simple to do. This classic technique makes an attractive scalloped edge once folded.

1. Splitting Yarn--Practical Crocheter's piece on how to split one skein of thicker yarn into two skeins of thinner yarn is and continues to be the all-time most popular post on this blog. It's a handy skill to have and not difficult to do.
